In the soft rain of the month of May known for its feeling of gratitude, the Tzu Chi graduates were also experiencing some of their last days at the school. On May 19th, 2019 in the auditorium of Ralston Middle School, Tzu Chi held their graduation ceremony. The events included reviewing the past years’ memories, passing out graduation certificates, speeches to the graduates, and speeches made by the graduates. Also, the northern California story telling finalist and northern California academic medalist performed at the ceremony.

This time, the event was run by teacher Rain Meng and Michelle Lui. The thrilling short film that started the event allowed everyone to recount the happy memories of the past year. Some parents admired the short film, while others searched for their children amongst the recorded memories. All of them were grateful for the year full of wonderful lifetime memories.

This year’s graduates, in total, consist of four students. The school specially arranged for the students to offer tea and flowers to the parents that sacrificed for the success of their children. The students also displayed their gratitude to their teachers with the offering of flowers as well. The teachers were very content and wished the graduates the best of luck in the future with work success, academic success, and achievements in name recognition that would display the Tzu Chi spirit.

This year, 7th grader Wilona Chen and 6th grader William Tseng represented the students in a farewell speech wishing luck to the graduates. Next, Ms. Yeh showed her collection of the graduates’ past ten years of memories and wished the graduates a successful future. The cute preschoolers, music class, 6th and 7th graders all performed “A Face Full of Fortune.”

“Appreciate the resources given to us by Mother Earth, and always remember to use the kindness from your heart to see the fortune on everyone’s faces.”

The 7th graders brought an interesting in displaying tongue twister abilities and talking and singing at the same time.

The following performance featured two students: one, northern California finalist in storytelling and another, a medalist in academic competition. Their achievement was extraordinary in that they were selected from 120 competing Chinese schools. Special recognition to all the participating students in this year’s academic competitions and the teachers that helped aid them along the way. From intonation, fluidity, content, and pronunciation, all students did exceptionally well.

The other performances by the “Gratitude” and the “Combined Heart” classes included “Mom’s Precious Child.” 8th graders also performed “Invisible Wings” and threw the audience into chatter. “Every time in the feeling of loneliness or hurt without the appearance of tears, we know we have a pair of invisible wings…” The song lyrics matched the students’ hand gestures and moved the audience.

This year, Principal Rosemary Yen is retiring from his position as principal. Ms. Sophia Su is appointed as next year’s new principal. Many students gifted flowers to the retiring principal giving a scene that was touching to the heart. The thunderous applause of the auditorium resonated in the walls. In the midst of the happiness and laughter, Tzu Chi Academy concluded its school year and prepared for the new school year to come.
