2020 Tzu Chi Chinese New Year Event
On the day of January 26th, Tzu Chi volunteers woke up bright and early and transformed the multi-purpose room into a splendid setting.
Tzu Chi sincerely invites everyone including parents, teachers, staff, and students to the annual event of spiritual blessing. This year, the theme is “Truthfulness, faithfulness, compassion, joy and peace.” Facing the world’s calamities, the power of group love can work to resolve it. As long as every person is willing to devote their love and spread it amongst the world, then we will truly achieve a world of peace.
At the end of each year, Master Cheng Yen expresses her gratitude to the love and support of the public and the Tzu Chi volunteers. At the same time, she helps pray for peace in both Taiwan and around the world.
First at the event, they review the 2019 Tzu Chi Buddhist scriptures. They draw attention to the countless Tzu Chi volunteers around the world who wear a blue and white uniform that reflect the same compassionate and selfless love as Bodhisattva himself. They are the first ones to give aid in times of suffering and disaster and are the last ones left to clean up.
Next, several Tzu Chi brothers and sisters participated in the wonderful hand interpretation of "Deep Scripture, Wisdom and Wisdom as the Sea", which means: instead of writing words, we need to go deep into our inner scriptures, repent and make vows, and remove the bad habits of the past- awaken everyone's "conscience", return to a pure nature, inspire everyone to have a broad "wisdom potential" like the sea.
As for what Tzu Chi volunteers have done in the past year to give back to the community and care for the earth, the answer is in the video. Warm music, accompanied by a review of the activities of the Tzu Chi San Francisco Branch over the past year, everyone shown in it is full of emotions. Familiar faces appear in the film, and every volunteer has helped improve society without knowing it.
Blessings at the end of each year are given by Master Cheng Yen known as "Fuhui Red Envelope,” which contains the heart of reverence and blessing. For Tzu Chi volunteers it is a heirloom of love, representing happiness and good fortune. The red envelopes symbolize the blessing of peace in the new year for all those that receive it. Although the design of the red envelope style is different each year, the intention is the same. Those who hope to receive it will feel the blessing of Master Cheng Yen.
At the conclusion of the event, everyone prays together for both family good fortunes in the coming year, and also world peace for families everywhere.
Chinese New Year Thanksgiving Event
Immediately the 2020 Chinese New Year Blessing Thanksgiving Party kicked off. At the beginning of the event, in the singing of "Happy New Year", the children, teachers, and parents who took the bamboo tube, to collect donations, back to their mothers’ home were brought together to give blessings to people in disasters, and became a force to alleviate suffering. Tzu Chi upholds the spirit that small amounts of money can achieve great deeds, giving those who are interested the opportunity to do good deeds. The congregation took the bamboo tube back to Tzu Chi, and poured in the cents and cents of money that had accumulated over time, and poured them into the sea of merit, gathering sand into towers, and dripping water into rivers; giving tangible supplies to others, and intangible blessings to themselves
The Tzu Chi Humanities School's annual Chinese New Year traditional activities are designed to make this group of children growing up overseas experience the atmosphere of the Chinese New Year, while understanding the customs of Chinese New Year. They also hope to experience the joy of Chinese New Year reunions in a country away from Asia. This year's classes racked their brains to carefully prepare for the Spring Festival performances. Eighth graders were performing the sign language "Family" and looked forward to a happy family reunion. Sixth graders performed "Zodiac signs."
The audience also clapped their hands with brisk music. Through such performances, the children learned that there are so many auspicious words in China. The children of Zhuyin class performed the sign language "Little Tree", and a child in the class led the sign language demonstration in front of the class in order to show others how to follow along. The performance was well done and won the approval from the entire audience. From this, the lesson to: "Love not only people, but also the earth; as a peaceful earth will also create a peaceful world to reside in.
Next came the performance "Mouse to Marry a Bride" performed by the younger classes. There was a joyful atmosphere, the sound of gongs and drums, and firecrackers ringing in the background. The New Year atmosphere was vivid. In addition, another class wrote the Spring Festival couplet “Happy New Year.” Teachers danced, and students worked hard to promote the happy atmosphere of the New Year. The performance of the children today proved beyond remarkable.
In the sound of praying and happiness, the event came to an end.
